Their habitat, their neighbors, and where they live. • Their habitats are freshwater lakes, rivers, and marshes. • Some of their neighbors are rattlesnakes, red eared sliders, and herons. • Some alligators live in swamps, lakes, and slow moving rivers.
behavior • Alligators usually mate during the spring. • She lays 20 to 60 white eggs at a time in the nest. • The eggs hatch after about 65 days.
Physical features and their life cycle • Male American alligators measure about 11 feet[ 3.4 meters] in length on average. • The Chinese alligator normally grow to length of about 5 feet [1.5 meters]. • Alligators can live about 50 years in their lives.
food • Alligators eat mostly fish, snakes, and turtles, but do consume other animals. • These large reptiles are ambush predators and stealthy swimmers, able to avoid making ripples in the water as they sneak toward their prey. • Also, by lungs, alligators can control the depth at which they float.
