Purpose of a virus protection- An anti-virus program protects a computer from getting malicious viruses from the internet, through websites, email, and instant messenger. Usually it consists of a firewall, a virus scanner and remover, and sometimes other tools as well. Anti-virus can also prevent from getting viruses on your machine because anti-virus software can put a malware or virus in the quarantine so it does not do further damage to the system. One of the market leaders currently is Norton or Kaspersky. Removing infections is important because it stops annoying pop ups, irregular behaviour, and system failure or system performance decrease.
Purpose of firewalls- Fire walls can block intruders by looking for suspicious words, IP address or domain names. These methods are not the only ones. The other may include blocking certain protocols like FTP, ports or routing through the proxy service. There are two types of firewalls: the hardware firewall and the software firewall. The hardware firewalls are usually found in modems and routers to block suspicions incoming traffic from an internet connection that the person is using. Software firewalls reside in the individual system. Firewalls prevent malicious programs from accessing data and information or damaging your computer and block malware being sent on your machine. The firewall is always supplied with Windows itself but when you buy an anti-virus package it’s always supplied. Firewalls also have their drawbacks it can interfere with the programs in your computer, so some programs you might want to run will be blocked by the firewall such as games. To run a game you will either be prompted to allow the game to connect to the internet or turn the firewall
