  6. Assessing audienceand purpose • Who was Thomas? He was a public intellectual. A physician and an educator (and an etymologist – studier of word origins), who wrote about what effect scientific discoveries ought to have on how we as humans live our lives. What’s ethical?

  7. With a Partner • How does Thomas make his argument? • With a partner, find at least 1 example of how Thomas uses emotion, 1 example of how he uses logic, 1 example of a use of credibility (his own or others -- including questioning that of other people) to make his case.
