Types of adverbs • Adverbs of manner: standing behind intransitive verbs or objects of transitive verbs E.g.: She danced beautifully. He gave her the money reluctantly. • Adverbs of place: standing behind intransitive verbs or objects of transitive verbs E.g.: She went away. I look for it everywhere.
Types of adverbs • Adverbs of time: standing at the beginning or at the end of a sentence E.g.: Eventually he came. We’ll go immediately. • Adverbs of frequency: standing in front of “ordinary verbs” or right behind “auxiliary verbs”. E.g.: He is always in time for meals They sometimes stay up all night. He can never understand. Have you ever ridden a camel?
Types of adverbs • Sentence adverbs: standing at the beginning or at the end of a sentence, in front of ordinary verbs or right behind auxiliary verbs E.g.: Apparently he knew the town well. He actually lives next door. She is obviously intelligent. • Adverbs of degree: standing in front of adverbs or adjectives; before or after ordinary verbs E.g.: You are absolutely right. He drives too fast. Tom didn’t like it much but I really enjoyed it.
