KondajjiBasappa Shri Kondajji Basappa has had a variegated career. He was an Educationist, a Co-operator, a Legislator , a Parliamentarian and Union Deputy Minister and above all a SCOUT. The dominant note in his life is an urge to serve the people and community. His yearning is more towards scout movement in the country and has been responsible for planning and execution of many projects relating to the Bharat Scouts and Guides. Childhood • Sri KONDAJJI BASAPPA familiarly and affectionately known to most of us as simply “KONDAJJI” son of Sri Ningappa and ShrimatiHalamma , was born in Kondajji village in HariharTaluk, Chitradurga District on the 11th Day of December 1915. • Kondajji had his Primary Education in his own native Village and his Middle School Education taking the lower Secondary examination in the English Medium at Malebennur. Later he completed his high school studentship in Davanagere. Sri Ningappa (fother of KondajjiBasappa )
Education After his High School in Davagere migrated to Bangalore to join the Intermediate College . Subsequently he joined the B.Sc. Degree class in the Central College, taking Botany and Zoology as optional subjects of study. After successfully qualifying for B.Sc .degree he went to Poona for further studies in the Law College there and obtained the LL. B. degree.
Career Soon after his University career as a student , first in Bangalore and then in Poona, he started his legal career at Davanagere in 1942 after an apprenticeship of One year under Late Sri H. Lingappa, who was a leading member of the Shimoga Bar.
Scouting KondajjiBasappa was a Boy Scout in his Schooldays. In 1941 he was appointed as an Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts)for Davanagere . A little later he was elevated first to the rank of District Scout Commissioner , Chitradurga District and Subsequently as Assistant State Commissioner (Scouts) for Chitradurga Division. In 1964 He took the charge of State chief Commissioner. Under His leadership the state made rapid progress in all activities of Scouting and Guiding.

As A leader The orderly Implementation, according to a well laid-out plan, the several major works of improvement at the Besant Park, The Scout and Guide Training Grounds in Doddaballapura, to make it one of the best equipped and finest training center in the whole country. Another equally notable achievement of his is the establishment of an additional camping and training site for Scouts and Guides, of which he is the founder, Kondajji Campsite , a place of great scenic beauty and an ideal campsite to cater to the needs of the youth of our land , situated about 13kms. He was a member of the National Council and the National Executive Committee, both being the highest policy-making bodies of the Bharat Scouts and Guides , New Delhi. He is also Participated in some of the great International Scout activities in various countries. He went as a delegate from India to the Boy Scouts World Jamboree and the Eleventh International Scout Conference held in Salzburg, Austria in 1952. Subsequently, again as a delegate from our country, he represented India at the Twenty fourth International Scout Conference in Nairobi, South Africa in 1973.
Political Journey Young KondajjiBasappa was enter the politics at the age of 30, elected as a Chitradurga District Board President , which office he held for three years from 1944-47, and subsequently served as a member of the Board for another six years. The monumental work which he did during this period is still remembered by many with gratitude. KondajjiBasappa become a member of the Mysore Legislative Assembly 1n 1962. and joined the State Cabinet as Deputy Minister for Co-Operation (1962-67).

Later he served as the Genaral Secretary of the Mysore Pradesh Congress Committee from 1969-71. He was Elected to the Loksabha in 1971 genaral elections from Chitradurga District on Congress ticket. He held the office of Deputy Minister in the Union Cabinet from 1972-74.
An Educationist KondajjiBasappa was actively Connected with various educational Institutions and Projects and took a leading role in the development of education at various levels in the State. He was a member of the Secondary Education Board in the State for a term of Six years until 1950. A keen supporter of the adult literacy scheme which, it may noted, has been his first love, he guided its destinies as Secretary of the District Adult Education Association, Chitradurga, for ten years.
He was an elected member of the Syndicate of the University of Mysore for two full terms from 1951-60. KondajjiBasappa was also intimately associated with various other educational projects. He was at various times President of the Lambani Hostel in Chitradurga, Founder Secretary of the Chalavadi Hostel, Davanagere, Secretary of the SreeSadhuVeerashaiva Hostel, Davanagere and Founder Secretary of the High School at Sirigere in ChitradurgaTaluk. He also rendered service as founder-President of the TaralubaluNidhiSamithi in Sirigere for Three years. He was also Founder-Secretary of the Harijan Hostel in Davanagere.

A Co-Operator KondajjiBasappa has been in the vanguard of the co-operative movement in the State for over two decades, He was Founder –President of the Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Co-operative Society in Davanagere from 1950-60 and President of the Land Development Bank of Chitradurga and Davanagere Districts, Also for a period of ten years, and also served as a member of the Central Land Development Board, Bangalore, for some years.
