  1. Design 11 FINAL PROJECT Ford PRODUCT DESIGN PROJECT: A COLLABORATION You are going to put together a design team, follow a series of steps and then create a well designed object out of The first day will be spent organizing your team and brainstorming about your possibilities. Your entire project will be presented in a powerpoint. EACH DAY recycled or reclaimed materials. You will create a design package (business card, promo ad, designer profile of the working team as well as photographs YOU WILL HAVE TASKS TO COMPLETE. You will do fine as long as you properly manage your time, keep your focus on the daily goals and have a well organized team (2-3 people). documenting the piece) and present these to the class starting on January 17th – 20th

  2. DAY ONE: ESTABLISH YOUR TEAM & NAME IT & CREATE A BUSINESS CARD Create a design team of 2-3 people; more people is not always a best choice and because of that reason there will be no teams more than 3. Choose partners who will work together well, stay focused and help build a cooperative work environment. Remember: if you don’t have a focused team, your mark will suffer. Once you have your team established, choose a design company name. Create a business card that includes your company name, logo and tag line (a saying that summarizes your company). Research companies on line and either emulate one that appeals to you or create your own. Do not use a template….I will know. DAY TWO: RESEARCH COOL PRODUCTS FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS Do some research on innovative products made from recycled or unusual materials. Choose three of your favourite ones. Include a photo of each one and an explanation of the product (100 words each - include count). DAY THREE and FOUR: BRAINSTORM AND CHOOSE YOUR DESIGN PRODUCT Use the ideation and brainstorming process to come up with your own product. You must write, keep track of your ideas on the provided sheet of paper. I will provide this on day 4. You may be influenced by a product you see online but you cannot do a direct copy of the product. Best points will be given to innovative, smart and original products. Once you have chosen the product you are going to make, assign tasks. Who is going to get the materials, how are you going to make it - when? When will it be finished by? What can others do in the meantime, etc. Use the attached sheet. DAY FIVE: GET TO WORK ON THE PRODUCT & PRESENTATION PACKAGE you will need to create a designer profile on your company and the product you are creating. Follow the standard designer profile that we usually use, but have some fun with he pictures and quotes. Be smart though. Make everything look super professional. DAY SIX: CREATE A PRINT AD FOR YOUR PRODUCT Find a print (magazine style ad) and use it as a model for your own print ad. Create a smart ad that incorporates your product and a selling strategy found in advertising (remember our deconstructing ads unit(. Follow the general format of the ad you are emulating but smartly alter it to meet the needs of your own product. You will, no doubt, need to take some good quality photos of your product. Please give me a copy of your print ad and include it in your powerpoint along with the one you were emulating.

  3. FOLLOW THE IDEATION & BRAINSTORMING PROCESS HANDOUT. MAKE YOUR NOTES ON THE FRONT AND BACK OF THIS PAGE. Brainstorm about materials and objects.

  4. TIME LINE AND TASK WORKSHEET TASKS: NAME DONE? Who worked on the business card? Who worked on the Manufactured Landscapes questions? This is a trick as all people in the group are supposed to do these. Who created the designer profile? Who created the print advertisement for the product? Who is keeping track of the team powerpoint, making sure all parts are completed and the professional quality standards? Who researched the objects made from unusual materials? Who is managing the making of the object? What materials will you need to create the object? Make a list: Who is responsible for getting the materials? When? How will you get together to make the object(s)? When will it be completed by? Who ended up making the object? Who is responsible for photographing the object? All criteria has been given, if you have questions, please ask. You should check in everyday to make sure you are on track and headed toward the mark that your team has agreed to strive for. Any difficulty with team relationships should be directed to the teacher.

  5. PRESENT YOUR FINAL PRODUCT BE SMART ABOUT IT Along with your six part project on powerpoint, you must physically present you final piece. Think of a smart way to display your product as if it were in a shop window or store counter. Imagine your print ad accompanying the product in the display or your powerpoint visually selling the product to the viewer. Make sure your product looks finished and professional. FURNITURE OR OBJECTS MADE FROM COMMON MATERIALS KEYCHAINS MADE FROM COMPUTERS PURSE MADE FROM RECYCLED BRAS Think about the kind of things that are a waste product or throw away item in our culture.
