PLAN GTA Academy Overview 2008-2013 Past, current, or future GTAs can apply to participate in the GTA Academy w/approval from Chair or Director 9, 2-hour sessions facilitated by the Dean of the Graduate School and representatives from the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning Days held rotate (this year, Tuesday, next year, Wednesday) ~30 faculty mentors have participated ~128 students have participated

GTA Academy Overview Learning Objectives Gather practical tips and reflective strategies for enhancing your teaching skills. Interact with and learn from UofL faculty and staff who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Participate in a welcoming and inclusive learning environment in which you and faculty guests share and learn from one another. Explore and discuss discipline-specific teaching perspectives with peers and mentors from across campus and beyond. Gain awareness of the scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education.

This should be considered with all PLAN programs.” “It was useful to think through developing a philosophy of teaching and the importance of avoiding buzzwords. I am guilty of using those phrases in the past!” “Great perspective on graduate writing and tools offered.” “I really liked learning more about [developing] goals and obstacles to time management [and] the advice to make a backwards timeline.” “Great discussion of the benefits of peer mentoring and tools to start a program.” “It was useful [to learn about] WordPress [and other] new tools that I could use to begin marketing myself and my work.”
PLAN Year of the Mentor • 5 Peer mentoring workshops • Faculty and Graduate Student Learning Community • DGS Reading Group • Dine and Discover lunch • Cassuto Visit- Talk cancelled but 40+ attendees at Peer Mentoring for Recruitment and Negotiating a Job Offer workshop • 7+ new peer mentoring programs established! • MentorCenter • MentorConnect • Gathered recommendations from DGS Reading Group on what data to collect from programs. Data will be used to think further about the structure of graduate education and role of faculty mentoring at UofL. • Graduate Student representation on each of the Core committees for the 21st Century University Initiative • Tracking and publishing list of departmental peer mentoring programs and contacts
