Getting The Message Across • Collate Information from Pilot Studies, Maintenance Records, Pollution Incidents, etc • Communication With Representative Associations: (Licenced Vintners Assoc., Irish Hotels Federation, Restaurant Assoc of Ireland, RGDATA, Convenience Stores Assoc, Local Trader Groups) • Prepare Information Leaflets/Photographs • Put on Council Web Site/Newsletters
Types of FOG Management Equipment • Traditional Passive Grease Trap (IS EN 1825 Parts 1 & 2) • Retains FOG in Chamber • Requires Pump Out • Grease Retention Unit (PDI Standard – G101) • Skims FOG into Container • High Visibility for Maintenance
Additives • Great Variety of Additives: • Solvents, Chemicals, Bleach, Emulsifiers, Bacterial • Currently No Regulation Exists to Cover Performance Efficacy of Additives • Some Additives Can Work (Bacterial) but Some Do Not (Chemical/Emulsifiers) • How Can the End User and the Regulator Have Confidence Additives Will Do What They Say On The Tin
Additives • Similar Experience With Additives Found In All FOG Programmes Worldwide (Eg: Everett City, USA) • Eventually DCC Drew up Testing Procedure for Bacterial Additives • DCC Additive Policy is Similar to Harvard University, Everett City, etc
Dealing With Equipment Service Providers • DCC Provide Details of SPs To FSEs to Assist Them Getting Started • Compliance Consulting Approve all Design Proposals
Other Issues • Annual Trade Effluent Licence Fee Charged to Each FSE • Contract Cost to be Budget Neutral to DCC • Inspectors are Designated “Authorised Officers” under WPA
Other Issues • Successful Contract Outcome Requires Staff • Information Flow Handled Electronically but Individual FSEs Require Follow-Up • Judgement Required on Some FSEs
