HW: to be announced later Do Now 6/2/14 • If the scale on a map is 1cm:15km, how many km would 6.5cm represent? • If the map scale is 1in:550mi, what is the distance on the map if the actual distance is 3,850 miles? • If the actual distance between Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC is about 200 miles, what would be the scale of a map where the two cities are 2 inches apart?
Practice • Fill in the blanks Sheet • The scale needs to be completed based on the given actual and model measurements OR • The measurements need to be completed based on the given scale

First Step – Grid your picture • Measure the picture’s length and width • Divide it into small boxes (mine are 5mm) • Take your time to grid the picture accurately
Next Step – Determining the Scale • Measure your paper & divide by the number of boxes you need (according to your small pic) • Accurately grid the paper so you have enough boxes
Label your boxes • Use numbers or letters to lightly label each box • This will help you keep track of which box you are working in
Drawing the Picture • This step takes the longest and is the bulk of the project • Draw your picture box by box. • Ex: Look at small pic box A1, draw the same exact part on large paper in box A1.
Drawing the Picture • If you take your time your final drawing will be an exact replica of your original picture. • You do not need to be a good artist for this to come out good! You only need patience.
Coloring • Color your drawing to match your original • I recommend colored pencils with marker outline. • Don’t color the whole thing with markers or you will lose all the details you just took your time to draw!
How will this be graded? • Project Grade • Rubric with categories • We will discuss at beginning of class tomorrow • I will also have a printout of the instructions. • Completed project is due next Monday
Homework • Bring in a picture to use for scale drawing. No larger than 3in by 3in
Tomorrow • Bring your picture tomorrow so we can get started • If you can’t print your picture at home for whatever reason: • Copy it to a word document (or save the file with the picture) • Email it to me! mgalazin@monroe.k12.nj.us • Don’t come with nothing! • I will not Google a picture for you but I will print it if you email it to me
