  4. How I develop communication skills Through esz: spell-it-right subprogram

  5. Interpersonal communication • Verbal communication is the main medium of interaction used between participants and committee members including the felo in charged and MEP representatives. • During meetings, we reflected back on our job scope as to remind ourselves on what is our own responsibility and how do we plan to make this program a success.

  6. Group communication • Mostly done in meetings and during the program • We keep our committee members updated with each of our own excos progress during meetings • I also gave out a few ideas on how could we raise money in a short time by suggesting the Marketing exco to sell kerepek and sweets since those snacks will be easily sold in the lecture rooms.

  7. Communication through technology • A Facebook group page was created • To enable all the committee members to communicate with each other at any time and discuss the problems that arise and how to manage them. • Another Facebook page was created for the program itself since one of our activities are based on the participation through that page.

  8. Program’s Facebook page

  9. SPELL-IT-RIGHT GROUP PAGE

  10. Since our program only have 4 formal meetings which are held on 23/4, 12/3, 23/3 and 18/4, most of the other times, I will communicate with my director of program though our Facebook page. • Discussed with program director and secretary on paperwork related materials (e.g.: budget planning and financial report). • Discussed with program director and Marketing excos related to the amount of money collected and how do we plan to distribute the usage of funds raised between our committees.

  11. Technology based communication

  12. Examples of paperwork done FINANCIAL BUDGET FINANCIAL STATEMENT

  13. COMMUNICATION WITH PARTICIPANTS • On the 19th of April, I became one of the persons in charged of handling our first activity which is Word Search and Spelling Bee. • For the word search, I interacted with the participants while asking them to form into a line of 10 people and separate themselves from their friends to avoid cheating during the activities. • I learnt not to use a stern or too formal voice instead use intonation with loud and clear voice to ensure the success of the program.

  14. WORD SEARCH ACTIVITY IN DEWAN SERBAGUNA

  15. Communication with participants • On 20th of April, I handled a booth during Cross Word Hunt activity • My booth is a ‘Question & Answer’ booth so I learnt to give clues for the difficult questions and providing prompt, gestures and eye contacts during the game.

  16. CONCLUSION • ESZ Subprogram Spell-It-Right has given me chance to improve my communication skills especially in English. • I communicated with the committee and participants mainly using English as a medium to prove and motivate other students that they are still capable of conversing in English if they gave the effort to do so. • Lastly, I believe that we can achieve a lot through English language therefore, every baby steps count to our success in the future.

  17. THANK YOU
