  2. Classification and Description • Pantherapardus • Black fur, black rosettes • Male 100 lbs., female 75 lbs. • Five claws on front paws, four claws on back paws

  3. Biome • Forests, rain forest ,rocky mountains and caves • Africa , Asia and South America • Does not migrate • Lives in dense cool places

  4. Life Cycle • 2 -6 babies 15-20 ounces • 12 years in wild / 20 in captivity • Fur grays when older • Preys on other animals

  5. Adaptations • Camouflage skin • Sharp hearing and eye site • Hunts on land and in trees • Very muscular

  6. Reasons for Endangered Status • Deforestation • Poachers • Farmers poison them • Killed for skin

  7. Conservation • Educate people • Malay peninsula enforced poaching laws • Donate money to Malay • Recycle so they do not cut down more trees

  8. Fun Facts • Can carry 200 pound carcass into tree • Vultures stay away from meat in trees • Dives to cool itself off • Not always black, sometimes brown
