Announcements: • ALL Seniors: Come to school by 9:00 tomorrow. If you want to go to Magic Mountain, you must be present on ALL SENIOR ACTIVITY DAYS. • Pull our a blank sheet of paper and title it: CHAPTER 8 NOTES
UNEMPLOYMENT IS… • SOMEONE ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR A JOB!!! • And must be 16 years old or older • And now, we’re going to go a little more in depth and learn about the four different types of unemployment!!!
THE FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF UNEMPLOYMENT
Four Different Types of Unemployment: • Frictional Unemployment • Structural Unemployment • Cyclical Unemployment • Seasonal Unemployment
FRICTIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT • People looking for their very first job • OR people that voluntarily choose to quit their jobs • Moving to another city, state, or country • Looking for better pay or benefits • Least serious type of unemployment out of the four
Question to Answer: • Why is frictional unemployment the least serious???? What about its definition makes it not too serious?
STRUCTUAL UNEMPLOYMENT • People that lose their jobs because they are unskilled laborers • Easily replaceable by better technology or machines • MOST SERIOUS type of unemployment because they get discouraged and eventually give up looking for a job
CYCLICAL UNEMPLOYMENT • People that lose a job because of a downturn in the economy • They are skilled, but due to slow business, some people are fired during times of recession • When the economy picks up, the can easily find a job.
SEASONAL UNEMPLOYMENT • People that are unemployed during certain times of the year • These are jobs that are not in demand 365 days of the year

GUESS THE TYPE OF UNEMPLOYMENT??? • A teacher quits her job because she is moving to another state.
GUESS THE TYPE OF UNEMPLOYMENT??? • A high school student is looking for her very first job.
GUESS THE TYPE OF UNEMPLOYMENT??? • A ski instructor is out of a job after the snow season is over.
GUESS THE TYPE OF UNEMPLOYMENT??? • A supermarket cashier gets fired after the store adopts self-check out machine stands.
Creating a Comic Strip • Assignment: You will need to create a comic strip that illustrates the four different types of unemployment. So let’s set up your comic strip storyboard. • Use pictures, stick figures and captions to illustrate the meaning of each type of unemployment. • Remember, it is a storyboard that illustrates the definition of each type of unemployment. • Finishing details…it has to be neat and colored!!! • DUE DATE: Monday, May 14th!!! • 3o points!!!
