Purposes of the Presentation To introduce to CMA Members the new CMA Scholarship Program for Intern-Students of Private Clubs To encourage private clubs to consider implementing internship programs
The Scholarship Program • Eligibility • Sponsorship • Procedures - Application - Vetting • Other Administrative Matters
The Intern Scholarship Program - Eligibility • Must have worked in a private club for a full-time internship of: ** a minimum of 400 hours (including lunch hours) ** within a period of ten (10) consecutive weeks ** in the past six (6) months of the application • Must be a HK resident holding a valid HK identity card • Higher Diploma or Degree Course of an accredited program, related to private club management and/or operations, including but not limited to catering, hospitality, recreation/sports management, etc • Targeting 1stYear and 2nd Year students • Application by the intern, with endorsement of the CMA Member, where in his/her club the applicant is currently working or had recently worked (at least within past six months) as an intern, certifying fitness of the applicant in private club industry, including interest, character, work attitude, and so forth
The Scholarship Program - Sponsorship • Maximum sponsorship HK$50,000 in each calendar year • Maximum HK$25,000 to same intern in one academic year • Two (2) application periods in each calendar year, ending 31st March and 30th September • The award - an one-off subsidy • Only one award in each application period • Same intern restricted to receive only one award during his/her entire diploma or degree course • Flexibility to grant more than one award in one application period - using previous un-granted award(s) carried forward from previous applications period(s) when no awards offered
The Scholarship Program – Application • Use official Application Form • Application form obtainable from CMA Member or CMA website • Application endorsed by CMA Member, where in his/her club the applicant has worked • Application form sent to the Committee Chairman of the Scholarship & Education Development Fund • Each CMA Member nominates only one (1) applicant in each application period • Enquiry on application direct to the Committee Secretary
The Scholarship Program – Vetting Application • Responsible by the Scholarship & Education Development Fund Committee • Declaration of interest required • Completing vetting within thirty (30) days of application • Vetting including pre-selection, short-listing and interview • The Committee’s decision final • The Committee, empowered by CMA, has all rights and discretion in managing the program
The Scholarship Program – Other Administrative Matters • Awardees not required to sign undertaking to work in private clubs after graduation • Cheque presentation to awardees at CMA meeting • Committee tracking the progress and development of sponsored students through various channels • Awardees required to assist the Committee in promoting the program • Awardees encouraged to participate in CMA activities, eg fund raising events
Benefits of Internship Programs to Private Clubs Being social responsibility to community (conducive to land renewal negotiation) Enhancing CMA profile in promoting and developing the private club industry Raising awareness of the private club industry to students Sponsored interns helping to promote the private club industry Strengthening private clubs’ competitive edge in staff recruitment
Support from the Scholarship & Education Development Fund Committee • Taking care of all promotion to educational institutions and administration of the scholarship program • Sample forms for appointment of interns • Experience sharing with other clubs having internship programs • Latest information from catering/hotel industry, eg minimum wage for interns (currently recommended at HK$3,500)
