  3. The Dative prepositions You use the Dative Case (3rd line) with certain prepositions:

  4. Remember the years? • The plural form of “year” (das Jahr) is “die Jahre:” • Ich bin 14 Jahre alt. • Sieist 24 Jahre alt.

Dative plural: • All you need to know about Dative for now is that the Dative prepositional objects add “-n” or “-en” in the plural: S V T (M) P • Ichwohneseit 7 Jahren in NK. • I have lived in North Carolina for 7 years. S V T (M) P • Siewohntseit 10 Jahren in Berlin. • She has lived in Berlin for 10 years.

  6. But why not “Ichhabeseit 10 Jahren in Hamburg gewohnt?” Ichhabeseit 10 Jahren in Hamburg gewohnt = I lived in Hamburg for 10 years. (But I don’t live there anymore.) Ichwohneseit 10 Jahren on Hamburg. I’ve been living in Hamburg for 10 years. (Still there….)
