Institute of Petroleum Engineering Marine Renewable Energy Development in Scotland (MREDS): a key strategic involvement between HWU UHI, OIC and HIE in terms of developing research capacities; and the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in terms of optimising opportunities for further development, linked to its unique wave and tidal test facilities.

James Watt Institute for High Value Manufacturing Scotland’s only EPSRC funded Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre • EPSRC funded ~£11.2M (2003 & 2008) plus industry funding to develop one of its Innovative Manufacturing Research Centres (IMRC). • HWU’s IMRC, develops agile, distributed, flexible manufacturing systems emphasising: • photonics manufacture • digital 3D design • microsystems • Partners include: QinetiQ, Optosci Ltd, Pathrace plc, Micro Circuit Engineering, Agilent Technologies U K Ltd, C A Models Ltd, Renishaw Plc, Airbus UK Ltd, IMEC, Rofin-Sinar UK Ltd, MicroStencil Ltd, Merlin Circuits.
