Mooring • Additional mooring buoys are needed at: • Brazos flood gates mile 399 and 403 • Lydian Channel across from light house at mile 536 • Bolivar
ATONS • Atchafalaya River – need Atons reset with low river • Requested removal of every other buoy in the ICWW from Corpus to Brownsville
Vetting Issues • Repeated outages noted in areas not applicable to brown water: • Intrinsically safe A/C • Voyage planning • Global navigation system
Safe Operations/Best Practices • Near Miss Program • Reporting and following up on near misses supports our proactive efforts regarding safety. • Simulator Training Program • All wheelman and steersman attend simulator – focus: • Safe operations • Crew management • Personal development
Wheelhouse Distractions • Cell phone policy key points regarding wheelhouse distractions: • Cellular phones and/or electronic devices shall not be carried on your person or used while on watch. • The use of cellular phones and/or electronic devices is only permitted while off watch, and only on the towboat in designated areas. The use of such devices shall only be allowed where they do not interfere with navigation and or official communications.
