  1. So, the Campus Card What is the campus card? It’s a unique stored value on a piece of plastic. Why did we have this? Back in the day, This was the best way to securely store a unique user value, and to hand this stored value over to a payment provider. Why do we still have this, when we have smart phones?

Why do we still have Plastic Cards? • Payment processors like them because they provide means to control access to their systems and your systems. • Card providers like them obviously. • The technology is really just coming out to make this happen, based upon Blue-tooth/NFC functionality and digital wallet on the phone. • The old readers did not support BT/NFC. • Campus are slow to change.

  3. What is the problem with plastic? • Expensive to Deploy • Expensive to Maintain • All they do is provide a unique id, nothing else.
