  5. Challenges facing Yemeni women • High Population growth rate with scarce resource • High poverty rate • High maternal mortality • Demographic distribution • Religious and cultural conservatism: - SRHR is Taboo and women empowerment is plot from outside. • Early Marriage, FGM and GBV

  6. Roles and responsibilities given by the community for women. • Access to services particularly FP and RH • In ability to take Decision. • Girls education (Boys go to school girls bring water). • High illiteracy level particularly among women (lack of information ) • Women are not economically independent

  7. Challenges facing MOPH&P • Lack of allocation of enough fund for RH and Women empowerment interventions • Lack of advocacy of RH and women empowerment among decision makers. • The major challenges to improving RH and women’s health is the shortage of health-care workers. • The RH ,women’s health initiatives have failed to attract significant global resources, in compare to other global health issues–such as HIV.

  11. National Policy for population in Yemen 2001- 2025 • National 4th five year Plans for health development and poverty reduction 2011-2015 • National Strategic Framework for the control and Prevention of HIV\AIDs 2002 • Gender and Health strategy 2006-2010

Ministerial Decrees: • MoPHP Decree for free of charge FP • MoPHP Decree for free of charge delivery • MoPHPDecree about FGM (prohibition of FGM at the public services) • MoPHP Decree for free of charge health services for displaced people • MHE Decree to mainstream RH and Population issues in university curriculum.

Supporting interventions: • Donors coordination: monthly RHTG meeting with an outcome of jointly planning ,reporting and share in funding of activities at all levels . • Update of job description of midwife focusing on task Shifting and private practicing. • Youth friendly services at universities and at community level.

Development of educational booklets regarding adolescents and youth RH • Gender Generation dialogue on youth RH issues. • Post partum best practices with post partum IUD • Scale up training of GPs and midwives on MVA • Unification of RH-FP messages for the community and media and religious leaders.

  15. Working with civil society in many activities focusing on BCC as generation dialogue ,community communicators, and health volunteers with/by youth. • Social marketing for family planning with private sector. • Joint MoPHP-Development Partners mission to articulate Implementation Plan, including Commodity Security Framework, on behalf of all donors •  Development of RH indicators at governorate level to monitor their progress. • Gender mainstreaming in national plans.

Work Will Be Taken • Intensive political lobbying for RH and women empowerment as human right approach. • Resource allocation to follow national priorities. • Strengthening health national systems for sustainably of services. • Focus on Evidence based interventions (Mesopristol for PPH and Post abortion hemorrhage).

  17. Focusing in working with religious leaders(men& women) on RH and gender activities. • More access to RH -FP, maternal and neonatal services for poor (Voucher Scheme). • Human resources development focusing on female staff( national midwifery program). • Advocacy of supporting laws and legislations in area of RH & women empowerment

  18. Community engagement and empowerment to ensure Rh and FP services • Advocacy for minimum age of marriage among parliaments and community • Access to information services and continum of reproductive health services and counseling under one roof. • Build stronger NGO and private sector partnership • Focusing on research in area of RH and Gender
