  1. What Is AVID? AVID is an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID focuses on mid-performing students, who are capable of completing the college preparatory path with additional support. 1 What does it include? Research-based strategies and curriculum Development of critical thinking among students Intensive tutorials 2 What are its benefits? Helps students navigate the path to college Infuses students with a spirit of hardwork and dedication Improved student teacher relationships 3 How does AVID work? Students are invited to the courses on the basis of STAAR scores, behaviour, special needs, course enrollment, attendance and grades Students enroll in Advanced Placement, pre-Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses Students engage in challenging coursework www.killeenisd.org 200 N.
