  3. WELCOME! • Welcome to 3rd grade! I am so delighted to have you in my class this year. There are many new and exciting things that you will be introduced to this year. Just come in ready to do your best and this will be an awesome year of growth for you!

  4. Our Goal… • To communicate effectively with parents and establish a positive home-school environment that promotes learning and academic success.

  5. Classroom Expectations • We expect all students to come to 3rd grade with these expectations in place: • Be prepared to work daily. • Follow directions the first time given. • Remain in your seat unless told otherwise. • Raise your hand to speak. • Respect others, their property, feelings, and space.

DynamicIndicatorsof Basic Early Literacy Skills • 3rd Grade Benchmarks • Fall- 77 words per minute read correctly • Winter- 92 words per minute read correctly • Spring- 110 words per minute read correctly * To obtain benchmark, a student needs to work on the upcoming goal rather than the current goal. (Example: In August, a student should strive to read the winter goal, 92 wpm, in order to benchmark.)

  10. Accelerated Reader • AR goals will be established based on STAR Reading tests taken 3 times per year (beginning, middle, and end). • We expect all students to read in their ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development). • We encourage students to read 3.0 level books and higher. • Library visits may be limited according to available class time.

  11. Homework Expectations • Homework will be given most nights Monday through Thursday and occasionally on weekends. • Written homework will take approximately 30 minutes per night. • Please allow additional time to study for tests (especially Science and Social Studies).

  12. Writing • Writing is a fun way to express yourself creatively! We will integrate Writing and Grammar each week to allow you to practice using the learned grammar skills in your everyday language. We will learn to write 5 paragraphs in response to a given prompt.

  13. Birthdays! • Bringing cupcakes or cookies to class so we can help celebrate your child’s birthday is always welcomed! • REMEMBER: Contact the teacher to schedule a time and NO BALLOONS please! ALSO, please send party invitations to the whole class or take care of it on your personal time. Thank you!

  14. Attendance/Tardies • Students will enter class and begin working at 7:45 a.m. It is very important that your child be at school everyday on time. Morning Math, AR, restroom break, and all notes and money will be handled at this time. Please do your best to have your child here, scheduling appointments as late in the afternoon as possible.

  15. Contact • I am here for your child, as well as, for you. I will do my best to keep you informed at all times. If there are ever any questions or concerns, please contact me first for clarification. I am more than willing to speak with you concerning anything. Thank you!
