  2. A.V.I.D.’s Mission The mission of A.V.I.D. is to ensure that ALL students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle: • Will succeed in rigorous curriculum • Will complete a rigorous college preparatory path • Will enter mainstream activities of the school

  3. A.V.I.D.’s Mission The mission of A.V.I.D. is to ensure that ALL students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle: • Will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and • Will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.

  4. A.V.I.D.’s Mission A.V.I.D.’s systematic approach is designed to support students and educators as they increase schoolwide and districtwide learning and performance.

  5. The Program • Recruitment of… • “B” & “C” students. • Historically underrepresented in colleges. • Students placed in rigorous classes, with support through tutorials.

  6. The Program • Development of essential skills (organization, time management, note taking, etc.)

  7. The Program • Positive reinforcement, with oversight and coaching • Higher expectations & goals lead to achievement and higher student confidence

  8. The Program • Mon, Wed = Curriculum Days (teaching of essential skills) • Tues, Thurs = Tutorial Days • Friday = Binder checks, guest speakers, team-building, college visits, & other field trips.

  9. A.V.I.D. Is … …supposed to HELP students do well in their other classes. …supposed to give the students someone else that cares about how they are doing. …supposed to help students see the potential in themselves. A.V.I.D. Is NOT… …easy. …supposed to be an imposition upon your other class. …for “Advanced” students. …for “stupid” kids. …an intervention program. …supposed to “fix” anybody.

  10. Toll’s A.V.I.D. Program The interview process starts with the student, near the end of the second semester. Your child must show interest in taking the program. Please ask your child to see us if they have any questions.
