Educator Ambassadors • GLAST supports 9 Educator Ambassadors • Training July 10-14, 2006 at SSU • We concentrated on normalizing content of presentations so that we could better measure the impact of the program. • FY06: over 2200 teachers, over 1500 students and over 500 members of the public were direct participants in workshops, classroom presentations and lectures (as reported to EDCATS) CA BC WY KS MI IL CT MI NJ

  7. Black Hole FAQ Brochure • Funded primarily with EXIST mission concept study funds, but partly subsidized by GLAST • Accompanies planetarium show • Future print runs will be funded by and will feature GLAST • Spanish version now available in print.

GLAST Press Plans • New PAO at GSFC – Rob Gutro • New Science writer – Bob Naeye • Now at work on Science Writer’s Guide and GLAST “messages” • Please send names of PR contacts at LAT collaborating institutions and agencies – please let me know by July LAT meeting • We are developing procedures for approval for press releases and need your input

GLAST Press Plans • Importance of confidentiality of science results that are press-worthy • No preprints on astro-ph or any web site • Strict embargoes imposed by Nature and Science • Orderly presentation of results is essential for best coverage • Most releases are issued by NASA • Coordinated “companion” releases can be issued from other institutions and agencies • We are available to help you with your companion releases

GLAST Press Plans • People to tell if you have a press-worthy result • Peter Michelson (LAT result) or Chip Meegan (GBM result) • Steve Ritz (Project Scientist) or Deputies if unavailable (McEnery, Gehrels) • Lynn Cominsky (GLAST Press Officer) or Rob Gutro (GSFC PAO) • We confer weekly to discuss press activities and assign writers and graphics support, and coordinate release through HQ and/or GSFC • What to do if you are invited to issue a press release or participate in a press conference at a meeting • Let one of the above people know, especially if you want help writing the release or with illustrations
