  2. The Killing of Millions Everyday 46 children learn that they have cancer; about 16 of these children are a result of second hand smoking.

  3. The Unknown The deadly effects of second hand smoking have been ignored for too long and I feel that more people should be aware of the repercussions that smoking has on non-smokers in our world today.

  4. Second Hand Smoke and Children Approximately 15,000 children are hospitalized a year. Thousands of colds and sore throats. The toxic chemicals in a cigarette damage the lungs of children for the rest of their lives. 28% of all second hand smoke related deaths are children.

  5. Second Hand Smoke During Pregnancy During pregnancy, the toxic chemicals in second hand smoke causes: Premature birth. Severely low weight in babies. Mental retardation and other learning disabilities. Immediate death of the child during labor.

  6. Second Hand Smoke Causes Hearing Loss 17% of people exposed to tobacco smoke can experience hearing loss. The chemicals in second hand smoke affect the blood flow in the inner ear. The higher the levels of tobacco smoke, the more likely a person would have hearing loss.

  7. The Death Count • 379,000 deaths from heart disease caused by second hand smoke a year. • 165,000 deaths from lung infections. • 36,900 deaths from asthma. • 21,400 deaths from lung cancer. • In total, more than 600,000 deaths are caused by second hand smoke a year.
