Why did I choose this? • Landscaping is a good skill to learn. • Someday I might want to landscape my own yard. • I have wanted to learn how to landscape.
Will I continue to pursue this? • I am not pursuing landscaping as of right now. But later on I might look for some more knowledge in it, but right now I don’t have any more interest in furthering my knowledge in the landscaping felid.
What has this taught me? • This has taught me to be more patient with things. • I have gained some skills on how to make a blue print on landscaping a home. • It has also gave me a better perception of how landscaping is done.
When will I use this? • This will become very helpful in the future if I do a landscaping project like the one I created.
My Research • For my landscaping project I have researched many different landscaping projects.
Retaining Walls • I have learned that there are two different types of retaining walls. Reinforced and normal.
Soils • I have learned that depending on where you live or what you are doing that there are different types of soil to use. • This chart shows what Percent clay or what percent Silt, or percent sand. • If you live where there is A lot of rain a sandier soil Would be more ideal.
Clay Soil • Many plants can't grow in soil that is mostly clay because it is too wet and too compact. • Clay soil doesn't allow much space for air because it is so dense. While some plants can grow in clay soil, if you want to plant a garden in dense clay, you'll probably need to add another type of soil. • Clay soil is rich in nutrients so many plants can grow in it as long as you add another soil to it.
Sandy Soil • Sand soil has a good drainage system in it, but sometimes water can drain too fast from it. • Plants rooted here have trouble absorbing any water. • Not good for plants to grow in.
Silt Soil • Granular soil that is between sand and clay • Holds water long enough for plants. • Still safely drains away excess. • This is the ideal soil for landscaping and gardening. • Also known as Loam
You can improve your soil • Adding things such as manure or compost will help loosen your soil and make good drainage. • This helps with the soils ability to deliver nutrients to the roots.
