Naming and Chemical Formulas for Tertiary Compounds • Steps for Naming Tertiary Compounds • 1. Name the metal; if it is multivalent use Roman Numerals • 2. Name the polyatomic ion (remember the different ways of naming polyatomic ions – refer to previous lesson for information) • Examples: • FePO4 Iron (III) Phosphate • NaClO • NaBrO4 • Magnesium Acetate Mg(C2H3O2)2 • Lead (IV) Perphosphate • Lithium Carbonate
