Routine Test Verifications • All USDA offices conduct routine test verifications to ensure all instruments in production are on the same test level for each quality measurement • A cotton with established values is utilized for the verification • The reference level check cottons are provided to the Classing offices by the Standardization and Engineering Branch
Routine Test Verifications • The reference level check cotton is tested a minimum of every two hours during each shift of operation • The reference level check cotton is tested on each instrument a minimum of two times (four combs)
Routine Test Verifications • The results of the test for each instrument are transmitted to the office computer system, compared to the established values for each quality measurement, and a comparison report is generated • The comparison includes for each quality measurement the instruments observed value, deviation from the established value, and reproducibility
Routine Test Verifications The test tolerances for the verifications are: Micronaire Strength Length Length Uniformity Trash Color Rd Color +b +/- 0.10 +/- 1.50 +/- 0.020 +/- 1.00 +/- 0.10 +/- 1.00 +/- 0.50
Routine Test Verifications • Classing offices have the option to increase the number of tests performed and test the cotton more frequently • Classing offices also have the option to narrow the test tolerances
Routine Test Verifications • The results are closely monitored by supervisory personnel • Any instrument found to be outside the allowable tolerance for any quality measurement for the verification will be taken out of production for technical investigation or calibration
