Analysis • Synchronized Swimming has dramatically changed between 1996 & 2013 • 2013 - More DYNAMIC & ATHLETIC: • Much faster • More type of propulsions, faster propulsion • More patterns and much tighter patterns • Much higher in figures and vertical • More acrobatics • More difficulty with angles, spins, thrusts done with eight athletes • Better ballistic and strength flexibility (overall not just splits) • 1996 – More CONTROL & STATIC movements: • More eggbeater and upright positions • More holding of positions • Sustained height • More clean and stable • = Very different standards
Conclusion • Synchronized Swimming is a very complex sport with high level technical and coordination skills. It is a multidisciplinary sports with a lot of elements to master: music, ballet, acrobatics, swimming, synchronized swimming… • Prepare the athletes on land to improve faster in the pool: • Develop physical abilities (flexibility, strength, coordination) • Develop coordination • Teach correct posture and prevent injuries • Ensure high-quality training and coaching at each phase of development: • Learn correct technique from the start • Implement high standards • = VERY IMPORTANT TO DEVELOP THE ATHLETE FULLY AT EACH STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT
