Bear Dancing By Elle Holland
Even though it is illegal, In India and Pakistan over 2,000 bears are forced to dance for entertainment. • Young cubs are stolen by poachers while their mother is searching for food. • The diet of dancing bears is causing distress for the bear so they haven't got the energy to dance.
What the WSPA do • They provide medical care for suffering bears. • They protect the habitat of sloth bears. • The WSPA rehabilitate and release rescued cubs back into the wild wherever possible. • The WSPA workers microchip each bear to prevent new bears from entering the existing dancing bear population. • Educate the local communities on bear welfare and conservation issues.
What happens to dancing bears. • Bears who are forced to dance normally suffer from a poor diet which leads to dehydration. • The bears also suffer from negletion and sometimes die before getting sold to dancing trainers. • The bears have a ring put through there nose which is then attached to roped and tied up.
