II. He came to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor • His coming was to declare liberty to all from the servitude of sin • Sin’s grip on our lives enslaves us • But it is liberty that frees us
Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Galatians 5:13 “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.”
II. He came to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor • His coming was to declare the day of vengeance of our God • We are comforted to know that God’s justice will prevail • Vengeance belongs only to God
Romans 12:19 “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
III. He came to provide for those who grieve • His coming was to give them a crown of beauty for ashes • Ashes were a common sign of mourning • A crown of beauty is an ornament to celebrate that the grief has been replaced
