  1. 38th Meeting of the Working Group on Spacebased Lidar October 16, 2012

  2. Wireless • Network: Boulder Meetings 5 • Password: Mill5

  3. Goals of the Meeting • Exchange information on recent progress relating to space-based lidar global wind measurements • Get up to speed on current agency news and insights relating to a global wind mission • Discuss important issues associated with Doppler wind measurements and develop new strategies

  4. Issues for Discussion • How can we elevate the science impact of a global winds mission to move up the decadal survey hierarchy? • Can we combine a winds mission with another decadal survey mission to move up the priority list? • How do we approach the next round of Earth Venture Announcements of Opportunity (EV-3 and EV-4)? • Should we be thinking of a completely different concept for global winds measurements? If so, what are some possibilities? • How do get a global winds mission within the cost cap for an Earth Venture proposal? • What is the most fundamental EV mission with defendable science that could be proposed? • What science could be done as part of an EV-3 airborne mission?

  5. Open Action Items • Explore possibility of pre-launch ADM Science Workshop co-sponsored by NASA, NOAA, ESA, EUMETSAT (WB, MH, LPR) – Waiting for ADM launch date • Send ADM Cal/Val proposal (Hardesty and Riishojgaard) to GK, CC Jack Kaye (MH, LPR) – Waiting for ADM Cal/Val meeting announcment • Finish and submit the BAMS article (WB et al) • Continue to look for opportunities to co-fly DAWN and TWiLite (BG, MK) and to demonstrate hybrid concept • Continue to explore design modifications to a DWL mission for additional earth science measurement capabilities – (Lidar Working Group) Open • Work to incorporate ESA experiences for technology assessment of spacebased UV technology (MH, LPR) Open
