HISTORY FUN FACT In the dances, Cha Cha Cha and Rumba, a “hockey stick” is a figure in which a woman moves along a straight line, with an angled turn at the end. Developed in Canada; early 1800s. 1st stick was created by Mi’kmaq, natives of Nova Scotia; wood with a flat blade. Bobby Hull- broke stick at practice; played with a “bent” hockey stick; more accuracy.
HISTORY CONTINUED 1920s- players taped stick to increase hold and strength 100 years ago- each player made own hockey stick from wood One-piece models made from hornbeam tree
HOCKEY STICKS TODAY More durability, but light-weight. Using less wood. Producing more fiber-glass, graphite, and aluminum sticks.
