4. R/V YOKOSUKA Fuel Cell Trial of AUV URASHIMA
At 2nd Sea Trial Cruise, achieved to run continuously 220km at 800m depth and established the world’s record.
NIRAI-KANAI cruising (see next)
Objective of this cruise;
1)Geological and Petrological study of Large Off-axis Lava Fields along the Southern EPR (East Pacific Rise)
2)Plume Tectonics survey at French Polynesia
3)Geobiological Expedition for Deep-Sea Hydrothermal Ecosystems in the South-West Pacific etc…

6. R/V KAIREI ROV KAIKO ~now
ROV UROV 7K as the substitute for the KAIKO vehicle, named “KAIKO7000”.
At 3rd Trial Cruise around JAPAN TRENCH July 15, “KAIKO7000” touched 7031m depth.
Next year
Used mainly Continental Shelf Survey.
7. OTHERS JAMSTEC has taken over operation of 2 vessels from Ocean Research Institute, The Univ of Tokyo;
R/V HAKUHO-MARU(3991tons) :
long-term cruises in the worldwide ocean.
R/V TANSEI-MARU(610tons):
short cruises near the Japan coast.
8. Lost equipment Where is the OBS?
They didn’t respond when we tried to recover.
An OBS found near Okinawa, ... against the KUROSHIO?
