5. Initiative Objectives Service Expansion: Address unmet oral health needs through expanded access (both prevention and treatment options). Delivery System: Create a more responsive system of care for oral health by enhancing delivery options and increasing care coordination among oral health and general health. Advocacy and System Reform: Address systemic barriers in the delivery and financing of oral health services through advocacy and policy. Education and Communication: Increase understanding and recognition of the importance of oral health among consumers, the general public, and policy makers.

How can the OHI funded projects and the information gathered from them be used to inform and educate policy makers about the importance of oral health? How can the Initiative be designed to promote policy change in the area of oral health? What level of government should the policy change and advocacy efforts focus on? How can the Initiative be designed to promote a better integration of oral health services with medical services?

17. OHI and Intersection with Other Efforts Current efforts by philanthropic entities, government and community-based organizations to improve dental health services. In general, the activities focus on prevention, access and workforce development. The focus of these activities is disproportionately on children.
