1. London Overground Infrastructure Improvement Programme 1 Work at Camley Street rail bridge Background
The work being carried out on the Camley Street bridge is part of the £326m project sponsored by Transport for London (TfL), Network Rail, the Olympic Delivery Authority and the Department for Transport to upgrade the London Overground network and improve its services.
What will be carried out?
The top deck of the rail bridge over Camley Street requires replacement and this is being undertaken whilst other work is carried out on the railway lines between Caledonian Road and Barnsbury and Dalston Kingsland stations.
We will construct temporary support structures for the existing bridge, then dismantle the bridge, half at a time, allowing for the main construction work to take place.
The construction phase includes utility cable work, pouring of concrete structures and placement of pre-cast concrete beams. Some of these activities will require the use of a crane.
The newly constructed deck will be temporarily placed at a higher level whilst further work is undertaken. It will then be slid into place, followed by finishing and refurbishment activities.
When will we work?
Work will start in January and continue through to March 2010.
Across this period we will generally work from Monday to Friday 8am until 6pm and on Saturday and Sunday. All work will be carried out under section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act (1974) granted by the London Borough of Camden.
Whilst work is carried out our teams will try and minimise disruption. All staff on site will be briefed and supervised to keep noise to a minimum.
2. London Overground Infrastructure Improvement Programme 2 Work at Camley Street rail bridge How will we gain access?
A work compound will be established underneath the bridge on the main roadway and will be used in conjunction with the existing compound adjacent. This will require a road diversion to be put in place however minimal impact on the flow of traffic is anticipated.
This compound will be used to access the worksite, signing staff on and off the site, delivery and storage of construction materials, holding area for plant, use of a crane for the construction stage.
