QUESTIONS 5 EXPERIMENT 5: ANALYSIS BY «MESH-CURRENT METHOD» Ertuğrul Eriş
OBJECTIVES • MESH-CURRENT EQUATIONS • Number of equations • Number of unknowns • When, additional unknowns? Solution? • MESH-CURRENTS/ELEMENT CURRENTS RELATIONS Ertuğrul Eriş
MESH CURRENT METHOD - Va + Voltage polarity references random, but current flow references are not!!Why? Independent KVL equations Mesh-Current equations: Unknowns: I1, I2, I3 3 equations NO supplementary equation 3 unknowns, 3 equations Ertuğrul Eriş
MESH CURRENT METHOD Current flow references random, but voltage plarity references are not!!Why? Negative currents could be changed to positive if the references are changed to opposite Ertuğrul Eriş
MESH CURRENT METHOD Tranffering the calculated results to realistic ones by rearranging the chosen current and voltage references. When changed the current reference of a resistor then voltage reference should also be changed, This is not true for independent voltage source, why? Power? Ertuğrul Eriş
QUESTIONS • What is Kirchoff Voltage Law (KVL)? • What is the relation between element currents and mesh currents? Does this relation require any voltage or current reference? Write down Ia, Ib and Ie resistors currents in terms of mesh currents. • Write down Kirchoff Voltage law (KVL) for all the meshes. Does this require any reference direction? Why? • Write down mesh current equations directly from the circuit. • How many unknowns are there in your mesh current equations? What are they? • Do you need any supplementary equation? What are they? • Can we figure out all the unknowns of the circuit in term of mesh currents? How? • Could you directly measure mesh currents? Why? Was there any similar case for node voltages? • When do we need "passive sign convention"? Ertuğrul Eriş
PROBABLE SOURCES OF ERRORS IN CALCULATIONS • Number of digits after decimal point Ertuğrul Eriş
