Packaging and Printed Paper Stewardship • Main Components • New Regulation under the WRAP Act • Lays out definitions, process and accountability • Stewardship Guideline • Clarifies expectations for outcomes • Business Plan • Detailed explanation of how to achieve outcomes • Minister of Conservation approves the plan
PPP Regulation • What is in? • pre-packaged goods • service packaging • packaging that is filled or applied at the point of sale • paper that is not packaging, but is printed with text or graphics as a medium for communicating information,
PPP Regulation • Who is in? • (a) the first person who, in the course of business or a prescribed activity in Manitoba, supplies a designated material to another person; or • (b) a person who, in the course of business or a prescribed activity in Manitoba, uses a designated material obtained in a supply transaction outside of Manitoba. • Process for plans, amendments, approvals • Minister approves Guideline and Plans

Timelines • Regulation passed on December 22, 2008 • MMSM is working on the plan • Will consult with stakeholders & governments • Plan is to be submitted by June 22, 2009 • 28 days for public review • Expect a decision fall 2009 • Six months to implement
