Italian Writers & Artists • New way of thinking emerged & as well as an emphasis on the past • Rediscovered Greek & Roman works • Led to a movement called Humanism • Stressed Importance of human abilities • Niccolo Machiavelli- 1513 wrote short book called The Prince • Advised how a leader should rule • Stressed “here & now” • “Better to be feared than loved” • Dante Alighieri-1st to write in Italian (vernacular)
