  2. Primary vs. Secondary Sources Hamlet and Oedipus By Ernest Jones Your primary source will be the text that you’ve chosen to focus on. The secondary sources will be books, chapters, articles, essays, criticisms, etc that are related to your primary source. Hamlet By William Shakespeare “Hamlet and His Problems” By T.S. Eliot For Example: If you working on Hamlet, your primary source will be Hamlet and your secondary sources will be essays or articles on Hamlet, such as T.S. Eliot’s essay, “Hamlet and His Problems” and Ernest Jones’ book, Hamlet and Oedipus.
