  2. “And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Acts 11:26 “Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade me to become a Christian.” Acts 26:28 “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.” 1 Pet. 4:16

  4. I. One who Suffers “If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” 1 Pet. 4:14 ESV

  5. “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2 Tim.3:12 NKJV God's Faithful have always paid a price to serve Him

  6. Verbal Abuse 1 Pet. 4:4 “speak evil of you” Jesus suffered verbal abuse Matt. 11:19 Followers of Jesus still suffer verbal abuse

  7. Physical Abuse Early Christians Stephen stoned - Acts 7 James killed – Acts 12 Paul was beaten – II Cor. 11 We may receive abuse today

  8. Who is a Christian ? One who will pay any price to follow Jesus ! Luke 14:27 – bear his cross Sacrifice for the cause of Christ

  10. II. One with a Moral Standard “But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.” 1 Pet. 4:15

  11. Moral Standard • Murder – Rom. 13:9 • Thief – Christians are honest • Evil doers - Rom. 12:18 • Busy bodies – 1 Tim. 5:13

  13. III. One in God’s Family “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:…”1 Pet. 4:17a House of God God's family

  14. God has a Family 1 John 3:1 “sons of God” Rom. 8:16-17 “Heirs of God” “joint heirs with Christ”

  15. God's house is the Church 1 Tim. 3:15 – the house of God, which is the church…” To be a Christian you must be in the church Gal. 3:26-27

  16. God's children Worship - Heb. 10:25 Unspotted from world – Jas.1:27 Abound in work of the Lord – 1 Cor. 15:58

  17. Who is a Christian? Obeyed the Gospel – BRCB Refuse to obey = Lost 2 Thes. 1:7-9 Saved from eternal damnation

  18. Reasons for Being A Christian • Pay the price – bear our cross • Follow standards of morality • Live as Faithful Children
