Domain Name Registry • 58,290 Domain Names under .il - 1 Jan 2002 • 9,318 new in 2001; 27,458 in 2000 • Sharp drop in rate! • Reasons: end of gold rush, general economy • First Domain Names started to expire on January 1, 2001 • Dispute Resolution Process: new ACP resolutions • International activities: • CENTR • ICANN
Domain Name Registry • Main goal now: Registrar accreditation procedure and agreements • A lot of progress during 2001 • Still not there…
IIX Update • IIX operating since May 1996 • 21 Peers connected • 639Mb/sec of aggregate (full duplex) bandwidth (2001 – 392Mb/s, 2000 – 118.5Mb/s) • IIX Peers connected with speeds between 128kb/sec-155Mb/sec • First time – IIX Peers connect via an alternate carrier (SDH STM-1 by Med-1)
Working Groups: Accessibility • New, major effort: Network Accessibility for people with disabilities • In cooperation with: • Snunit • Access-Israel (נגישות ישראל) • Assisting technology show during the conference! • First project promotes accessibility on the net (web design etc.) (Gideon Zailer)
Working Groups and SIGs • Internet for the 3rd age • In the steering committee, reps from: • Bar-Ilan University, ESHEL, Ministry of Education, Rotary Israel, MATNASIM, Amal Association and Senior Citizens associations • Project: specification of networking centers for Seniors • Cooperation with ESHNAV – promoting awareness for wise usage of Internet, mainly for younger people • Ministry of Education, Israel Police, National Parents Association
Working Groups and SIGs • Promote Internet usage in Small and Medium Businesses • In cooperation with: • Israel Small and Medium Enterprise Authority • Manufacturers Association • Pilot project underway
Hebrew Support Project: Report • Announced early 2000, to provide standard Hebrew support in the Netscape suite, mainly for non-Windows users • Delivered: Both Netscape 6.1 and current versions of Mozilla contain standard Hebrew support, for both browsing and e-Mail. • Coding done by IBM Israel
