  2. Background • Commerical companies have already started their services with “keyword”. • In Dec. 1999, a Hangul Name WG was formed under Name Committee. • Expanded into 6 sub-WGs: - Requirements - SLD - Registration Policy - Protocol - Coordination - Testing

  3. Internet Names Requirements • Not locked into Korean only solution • Encompass both DNS and keyword • No specific encoding point • Legacy support • Combination of Korean, English, Chinese • 8-bit friendly BIND

  4. Registration Policy (DRAFT) • .한국: KRNIC • Other Korean Internet Names (Keyword): Commercial Companies => We are still making consensus. • Agent or Registrar ? Roles ? • Should Reduce Domain Name Disputes • Central DB in KRNIC (.한국) • Need more check, discussion, consensus..

  5. Hangul SLDs • Two schools to be thought: - tanslation of full or sub-set of existing English SLDs • Creation of completely new Hangul SLDs • .kr SLDs • 7 functional names • 16 geographical names • Creation of new Hangul SLDs • exploit high popularity in co.kr

  6. Future works • There are several research projects related to Hangul Domain Name which will be finished within 2000. - Registration Policy - Protocol/Testing - Hangul Domain Name Dispute - SLD • A Domain Name Dispute Organization will be launched outside KRNIC.
