Abdullah acted as regent for his brother for nine years. Fahd died in 2005, and Abdullah has ruled in his own right ever since. Early Life: Little is known about King Abdullah's childhood. He was born in Riyahd in 1924, the fifth son of Saudi Arabia's founding king, Abdul-aziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud (known as "Ibn Saud"). Abdullah's mother, FahdabintAsi Al Shuraim, was Ibn Saud's eighth wife of twelve. Abdullah has between fifty and sixty siblings. At the time of Abdullah's birth, his father was Amir Abdul-aziz, and his realm included only the northern and eastern sections of Arabia. The Amir conquered Sharif Hussein of Mecca in 1928 and declared himself King. The royal family was quite poor until about 1940, when Saudi oil revenues began to flow….

  6. Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on August 5, 1930. After serving in the Korean War and then finishing college, he joined the organization that would become NASA. He joined the astronaut program in 1962 and was command pilot for his first mission, Gemini VIII, in 1966. He was spacecraft commander for Apollo 11, the first manned lunar mission, and the first man to walk on the moon. He died in 2012. Military Service Astronaut Neil Armstrong developed a fascination with flight at an early age and earned his student pilot's license when he was 16. In 1947, Armstrong began his studies in aeronautical engineering at Purdue University on a U.S. Navy scholarship. His studies, however, were interrupted in 1949 when he was called to serve in the Korean War. A U.S. Navy pilot, Armstrong flew 78 combat missions during this military conflict. He has played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, and the England national team for which he holds the appearance record for an outfield player. Beckham's career began when he signed a professional contract with Manchester United, making his first-team debut in 1992 aged 17.   11. Project Task You are going to write an 600-800 word Biography of your partner’s life. You must include your interview notes with your project. • Start by interviewing each other and find out information such as: • Where your partner was born. • Where they have lived. • Where they live now. • Who they have in their family. • What pets they have. • What sports they enjoy and any teams they play for. • Hobbies and activities they enjoy. • Holidays they have been on and places they have enjoyed visiting. • What they hope to do in the future, 5, 10 & 20 years time.
