  2. Let’s hear about you… • Name • Experience with computers for Internet and Email? • Experience with Microsoft Office 2007 – Word, Excel, Powerpoint and/or Access?

AND THEN DROP THE CLASS! • Rules of the classroom: all devices on vibrate and take it outside if you need to answer. Chapter 1: Computer and Internet Basics • Why use a computer? • Create documents • Analyze numbers • Edit digital photographs and video • Research • Communication • Why digital? • Digitization – process of converting text, numbers, sound, photos, and video into data that can be processed by digital devices • Easily stored and transmitted

Chapter 1 continued… • 1st personal computer = Apple I in 1976 • What is a computer? • Electronic device that • accepts input, • processes data, • stores data, and • produces output, based on a series of instructions in stored programs. • Computer system includes hardware, peripheral devices, and software.

  7. Chapter 1 continued…. • What is a peripheral device? • Hardware that can be added to a computer system to enhance what it can do. Examples include printer, scanners, USB devices. • What is software? • Computer program that tells the computer how to perform particular tasks. Examples include McAfee virus scan, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Explorer. • We know PCs and Macs are computers, what about iPods or cell phones?
