“Under God” Should stay in the Pledge of Allegiance Julie Bailey Research Project September 15, 2009
The history of the Pledge of Allegiance • The pledge was founded August 1892 by Francis Bellamy • It originally did not have “Under God” in it. • Under God was not added until 1954
Francis Bellamy • He was a minster • In 1892 he was asked to write an article for a magazine called "The Youth's Companion." • That article later became the Pledge of Allegiance.
God is part of this Country • Places god is in our country: Pledge Money September 11, 2001
The Pledge doesn’t mandate a Religion • It is not a Prayer. • It is a true statement • Everyone is “under god” • If you don’t want to say under God in the Pledge DON’T say Under God
Are there religions that don’t believe in God? • Aladura • Atheist • Bön • Buddhism • ChineseReligion • Confucianism • Druze • Eckankar • GreekReligion • Taoism • Unitarian Universalism
My opinion • God is a big part of this country. • Without him there would no faith, hope, or love.
