OHS RULES • Employees have a duty of care and must take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and other persons at their place of work. • Employees must not interfere with, hinder or misuse anything provided under the legislation in the interests of health, safety and welfare. • A person must not deliberately create a health and safety risk, or allow others to believe a risk exists with the intention of causing disruption at the workplace. • A person must not knowingly breach safety legislation, or aid another to breach safety legislation.

The evacuation procedures • When you discover a fire or emergency immediately raise the alarm, in the case of a fire break the nearest fire actuation point • You should be aware of the type of fire alarm system for the building you occupy • Please ensure that fire doors are not wedged in the open position, fire doors are designed to maintain compartmentation of a building in the event of a fire
Do not use lifts; electrical power is usually the first building service to fail in the event of a fire • Make sure you know where to assemble after evacuation. • Do not re-enter a building that has been the subject of an emergency evacuation until it has been declared safe by the fire brigade, police or other authorised person.

Emergency procedure • Procedure carried out during a fire alarm in commercial buildings where the occupants are evacuated via the nearest exit as the emergency services are called • Medical emergency where first aiders are called to attend an unconscious person and after checking their airways and general condition, put them into a recover position whilst awaiting the paramedic.
