  2. What Makes Sound • Vibration- • Definition • Sound Waves- • A vibration that spreads away from a vibrating object.

  3. How Sound is Produced by Strings • The Guitar’s body is hollow and resonates sound. • The strings make different pitches.

  4. What makes Sound • Compression- The part of a sound wave where molecules are crowded together. • Rarefaction- The part of a sound wave where molecules are spread apart.

  5. What can Sound go through • Solids- A form of matter that has a definite amount of space. • Liquids- A form of matter that takes up a definite amount of space and has no definite shape. • Gases- A form of matter that does not take up a definite amount of space and has no definite shape.

  6. Changing Sound • Pitch • Frequency • Hertz • Volume • Decibels • Loudness • Softness

  7. Sound Bounces • Reflection- The bouncing of a sound wave off a surface. • Echo- A reflected sound wave. • Absorption- The disappearance of a sound wave into a surface.
