The Past… • Exceptional Needs Program (ENP) Project in 2005 • New PK-5 Elementary School • 1,067 Students • 134,374 SF total building (123,345 SF of co-funded + 11,029 SF of LFI) • Allowance to abate/demo four (4) existing Elementary Schools • Anthony Wayne Elementary – sold to Catholic School; repurposed • Brickell Elementary – demolished; District still owns land • Slocum Elementary – sold to City; repurposed into Municipal Court • Spencer Elementary – sold to County; repurposed into Senior Center • Co-funded Project Cost: $22,025,045

The Present… Physical building assessments conducted in November 2008 • Renovate/Replace % Guideline: If the cost of renovating a building exceeds 2/3rds the cost of building new, OSFC recommends to build new. • Right Ratio: OSFC will co-fund up to 100% of a new building. The District is responsible for costs exceeding the 100%.
The Present… • Master Plan Option A • Add 18,623 SF to Elementary School • Abate/Demo Defiance Middle School • Abate/Demo 51,777 SF of Defiance Junior High and renovate remaining sections (1918 building and Auditorium) and add 44,729 SF • Renovate and add 27,471 SF to Defiance High School • Co-funded cost: $54,498,910 • Project Agreement LFI: $1,693,042 • District Local Share: $18,042,715 • Millage: 3.8 mills • Annual Cost/$100,000 Home: $116.68 • Each additional $1 Million in LFI is .22 Mills and $6.74 for each $100,000 Home

The Future… • OSFC potential offer of funding in Spring 2010 • Accept • Ballot in November 2010, February 2011, May 2011 and August 2011 • Finalize Master Plan Scope in April/May 2010 • Unsuccessful in 1 year to raise Local Share = Lapsed District. Continue to raise funds and contact OSFC for next cycle of funding. Enrollment updated and current Construction Costs applied; District goal to anticipate changes so raised Local Share is correct. • Timing is crucial
