Question #1 Question #1 Prometheus was a titan born by Iapetus and the Nymph Asia. He had a twin brother named Epimetheus. Prometheus and Epimetheus went from Mt. Olympus to Earth and created clay figures. Then, Athena breathed life into the clay figures. The clay figures that Prometheus created became Man, the clay figures that Epithemeus made became beasts. Zeus was angry that they created people and animals. He forbade them from teaching man civilization. He forbade the gods to give fire to Man, but Prometheus disobeyed and gave fire to man. Prometheus did this by entering Olympus at night using the back entrance that Athena told him about. Zeus was angered by his actions, for he did not want fire to be given to Man. To retaliate, Zeus gathered the gifts of the Gods and created a girl and Pandora and her box. This box created all the bad things of the world. Prometheus saw the curse that this box carried and refused it, but his brother opened the box. All the horrors of the world were released, such as viruses, war, and death. .Zeus then got angry again because Prometheus declined a direct gift from the chief god. As punishment, Zeus chained Prometheus to a rock in the mountains where his torture was to be done. Every day, an eagle would come to Prometheus and eat his liver, only leaving at night when the liver would grow back. The torture would then continue for a very long time. Zeus then offered freedom to Prometheus if he would tell Zeus the secret of the prophecy that told the dethroning of Zeus one day. The prophecy states that the offspring of Zeus and the Nymph Clymene would destroy Zeus and the gods. Zeus sent Heracles to break Prometheus’ chains from his rock. However, Prometheus was required to be chained with a rock for eternity, although he was still mobile. To honor Prometheus, Men on Earth created rings with stones and gems.
Question #2 Question #2 In the first version, Athena breathed life into the clay figures. In the other version, it says that Prometheus needed the energy of fire to give the clay figures the spark of life.
Question #3 Question #3 In the myth, Prometheus is punished because he creates "Man" and brings fire to them. He disobeys Zeus a lot, and keeps helping Man. Prometheus is punished by Zeus. Zeus chained Prometheus onto a rock in the mountains, and every day an eagle would come to eat his liver. The eagle would leave every day, only returning the next day after the liver grew back.
