Simile • Simile- comparing two things using like or as Example- The hot water felt like hot lava.
Metaphor • Metaphor- comparing two things not using like or as Example- Billy said it was raining cats and dogs outside.
Hyperbole Hyperbole- Using exaggeration to make a point Example- Bobby ate a million bowls of peas.
Onomatapoeia • Onomatapoeia- sound words Example- The clock went tick-tock.
Alliteration • Alliteration- Repetition of beginning sound Example- The fox ate the furry hare.
Personification • Personification- Giving human qualities to something not human Example- The sun smiled at Sally while she worked on fixing her bike.
Idiom • Idiom- A well known expression that does not mean what it says Example- Johnny had a chip on his shoulder.
