Categorizing Books 101 Books are placed into two categories: Fiction and Nonfiction What does fiction and nonfiction mean? What is an example of each?

Categorizing books 103 Dewey Decimal Classification System The DDC was developed by Melvil Dewey who, at the time, was a college student. He went on to create the first library school. His system is used in all libraries/Media Centers in order for anyone in any library or Media Center to be able to locate any book. Call numbers for non fiction books are arranged by ten different subjects, ranging from 000 – 900

People always asking us how “de wey” do • Well we’re the library crew • And this is how we do: • When you’re looking for a book, • You have to know • They have numbers attached • So you know where to go. • Triple zeros mean gen-er-ali-ties • And this includes computers and libraries • 100 is for phi-los-ophy • Ooooh witches and ghosts • Yeah they’re doing the most • 200 is for re-li-gi-on • All about what people believe-in • 300 is for social sci-en-ces • For all your issues • Money, government, laws and alliances • 400 is for language • Spanish, French, German, ooh the anguish • 500 is for science and math • Fossils, mammals, division, • Ooooh feel the wrath! • Ok guys we’re almost done, • 600 is gonna be the one! • Technology! • Engineering, cookingand utilities • 700, the arts, ooh yeah • Colors, drawing, painting, and photography • 800 is for lit-era-ture • Writing, reading, plays, yeah this is for sure! • 900 is for geography and history • Countries and traveling • Lots of unraveling! • Now no more asking how “de wey” do, • We’re the library crew and what works for us • Will work for you!
